20 questions with Kiera Bowyer
KIERA BOWYER is both the mystery muse and the style architect of PARTERRE FW2020 campaign. She has curated a collection of the impressively on-point looks to pair with Helena bag sets. We sat down with Kiera to chat about her life and inspiration.Kiera, what drew you first to fashion? Do you have a memory of your first “fashion moment”? Who was your influence? My first love of fashion came from my Grandmama. She always had the best sense of style and as a kid would take us thrift shopping. After a long day of shopping we would go back and do a full fashion show with every outfit we got for the whole family. Her influence is definitely what made me fall in love with fashion.I know that you went to fashion school. Could you talk a bit about what attracted you to that career. My attraction to fashion as a career was the self expression it brings. I love seeing everyone's individualism with style and their own take on trends.Do you have a style icon of all times?Hailey Bieber has always been a style icon of mine, even way back in high school. Her style is always on trend but comfortable which is a bonus in my eyes. It's also always achievable to the everyday person too which I love.Of course as well Coco Chanel, no little boy or girl growing up loving fashion isn't influenced by her masterful style. How would you describe your personal style? My personal style is very much comfortable and oversized during the day. Long coats, oversized blazers and baggy jeans. For night time a little more sleek... leather pants and boots, cropped tops and cute mod dresses. We all have experienced a lot of change in 2020. Would you say that your style choices for the current Parterre campaign were driven by this shift in fashion towards comfort and style? Timelessness? My style choices 100% reflect the change we have experienced in 2020. As much as I love to dress up, I also love dressing up- dressing down, if that makes sense. Making comfy look cute. As life slowly shifts back to normal I'm sure we will start stepping out of the comfort look, but as I see it, this will be the comfortable reality we are living for the next few years. What was the formula for creating these relaxed yet put together looks?I really put my personal style into this campaign. Took a lot inspiration from the countless hours I've spent on Instagram this year. But mostly pulling from my own closet, the thought was "what would I wear if I had somewhere to go?"Which is your favourite Helena set?Helena 01, as much as I try to venture out with colour. I love a black bag to go with everything.Wide strap or thin?Wide strap! The wide strap with the cardholder pouch makes me feel so much chicer. How do you like to use color, if you have to?Cant say i'm the most adventurous with colors. Green is my favourite "add to an outfit color" right now. Adding with accessories or layering with hoodies.Leggings as pants?I'm loving the "flared" leggings as pants right now. (We all know they are really called yoga pants though) or even leather flared leggings. Such a cute way to dress up comfy casual!Which shoe is on your shopping list?2 shoes that have my eye right now... I love Jordan 1s, always will. As well as platform or chunky boots, everyone needs those in their winter wardrobe.
Classic pieces in your wardrobe that are your forever items?I recently thrifted this Mugler olive green linen blazer... will be in my closet forever. As well as my newly found gap jeans. Honestly, felt like a mom buying them, but as a tall gal I've never found jeans that fit so good. You brought a few amazing thrift items to the shoot. Thoughts on fashion and sustainability?Sustainability is something that is super important to me with fashion. I feel so much guilt when I buy something that is fast fashion. There is much waste we create as humans, and I try to thrift as much as possible. As well being thoughtful on what we are purchasing as consumers. My biggest thing is "how much will I really wear this item". If the answer is less that 20, I don't need it.We were obsessed with the neutral colour top you wore for the outdoor shot. Where is that from? You know how whenever you're dating someone you steal their hoodie? This is one that I took from a boyfriend years ago! It has seen a lot but is the most comfortable and the color is perfect.Thoughts on dressing for your body type?I think the most important thing is dressing for you! I don't dress a certain way to please other people. It's what makes me most comfortable inside and out!Are there certain types of looks that photograph best?Lighting is key. Doesn't matter if you are shooting with a camera from 25 years ago, if you have good lighting you will get a good shot. What is your one no-fail styling trick? For fall/winter a big coat! You could be wearing Pjs underneath and a big coat will make you look chic 100% of the time. What is one thing you will never dress your client in?Something they aren't comfortable in. Doesn't matter how much I think they look good, if I can see they are not confident in what they are wearing it's not going to work! What types of clients do you work with? Brands? Individual clients?Individual clients at the moment! Helping people style for Instagram content mostly. Previously, I was dig styling for Mine and Yours co, as well as sales styling for Aritzia. One thing to buy for 2021 and to keep forever?A staple bag! A good bag can last you a life time, a good classic style (Parterre for example). Well made, sustainable and can be dressed up or down!
